Do you want to go beyond making dishcloths and scarves? Learn to knit in the round by making a hat in this two session class. You will learn in round on circular needles, magic loop, and double point needles. This will advance your skills to be ready to knit socks, mittens, and sweaters in the round. For this two session class Jared Hanson will be your instructor. Materials not included. See requirements for needed materials. Classes are Wednesdays September 27 and October 4 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Two at a Time Toe Up Socks Class

Second sock syndrome? Learn to knit two socks at a time using the magic loop method. Mary Enright will walk you through a figure 8 toe cast on, turning a heel with short row shaping and binding off for a toe up sock. This class will be every other week so you have time between to finish homework. Saturdays, October 7, 21, and November 4 from 8:00-10:00 a.m.

Color Work Selbu Mittens

Learn to make a classic Selbu Norwegian mittens with Jane Taylor. These mittens work up fast because we will be using worsted weight yarn. At the end of this three session class you will be confident in your color work skills and be on your way to beautiful mittens for everyone you know. Classes are three Tuesdays, October 10, 17, and 24 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Learn Amigurumi

Join us for an exciting amigurumi adventure where we'll be crafting the delightful Caille the Cat, designed by the talented Sarah Zimmerman of Repeat Crafter Me! This class is perfect for crochet enthusiasts looking to expand their skills into the whimsical world of amigurumi. Whether you're a fan of cats or simply love the art of crochet, this class offers a fun and engaging experience. Prerequisites: Students should already be comfortable with single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, and slip stitch. Sundays, October 15, 22, and 29 from 1:00-3:00 p.m.

Knitting 101 Class

Always wanted to learn to knit? This class is for you. Jared Hanson will teach you the basics of knitting in this two session class. You will learn to cast on, knit, purl, and cast off your first project, a dishcloth. Materials will be provided. Classes are Wednesdays, October 25 and November 1 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Drop Spindle Class for Beginners

Spindles have been around since prehistoric times and are one of the simplest tools to make yarn or cordage. There are many different styles of spindles from all over the world, the most common is the low whorl and the high whorl drop spindles. Come enjoy learning how to use drop spindle to make your own yarn and see for yourself how this portable tool can be your new best friend for spinning. This class will go through some different styles of spindles, what spindles are best for different fibers, and of course spinning and plying. Each student will receive a basic spindle and wool to learn on. There is no experience needed. Saturday, October 28, 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Socks on Circular Needles Class

Learn to knit basic socks using the 2-circular needles method. All socks have the same parts-a cuff, leg, heel, gusset, foot and toe. Thora Lee will guide you through all aspects of making a sock using her basic sock pattern. This 3-session class will be Tuesdays, November 7, 14, and 28 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Materials are not included. Please talk to the shop for help with class materials before Tuesday, November 7.

Easy Gansey Sweater

A Gansey is a traditional British Isle fisherman's sweater which is tight fitting and knit with fingering weight yarn on fine needles but for this sweater we will be using a worsted weight yarn and appropriately sized needles. It features knit/purl patterns, underarm gussets, and no seams! Body length and shape will be modified for a custom fit. Pattern included. Saturdays, January 6, 20, and February 10, 8:00-10:00 a.m.

CLASS POLICIES

Fees and Discount
Class fees do not include supplies unless indicated. 

Supplies
Plan on arriving in plenty of time before your first class session to purchase
supplies, especially if you need to have yarn wound. We encourage you to visit the shop
a few days before your first class to purchase supplies. For some classes supplies will be included.

Cancellations
Student cancellations must be made 48 prior to the first class session to receive a
refund or store credit. No refunds or makeup sessions are available for missed sessions
of multi-session classes.

If Prairie Road Yarn needs to cancel a class for any reason (including weather) we will
notify registrants via phone or email. We will offer a refund if we're unable to reschedule
the class.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Knitting is a fun and useful skill, but we know that getting started can be daunting. Solo learning is an efficient way to learn (you can pack a lot into an hour!), and our teachers are eager to teach private lessons for those who prefer a one-on-one learning style.

$45 per one-hour session
$25 per half-hour session

Private lessons are available during shop hours, depending on instructor availability.
